Detoxification, or simply Detox, is a set of interventions aimed at managing substance withdrawal.  Detox may prevent withdrawal related complications that might appear if symptoms were left untreated.  Symptoms such as pain, discomfort, sleeplessness, anxiety and many other physical changes are managed through the use of medication detox protocols. At Global Medical Detox, our detox medication protocols are drug specific and tailored to the needs of each individual. For some patients, detox represents the point of first contact with the treatment system and the first step in the recovery process. It is important for patients undergoing detoxification to know that someone cares about them, respects them as individuals, and has hope for their future. At Global Medical Detox our staff members are passionate about the care provided and are unwavering in the belief that all people have the capacity to recover.

Physicians practicing addiction medicine have long sought to develop an efficient system of care that matches patients’ clinical needs with the appropriate care setting. Patient placement criteria, such as those published by the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) represent an effort to define how care settings may be matched to patient needs. Placement recommendations often depend in part on the substance of abuse, the amounts used and the duration of use, co-occurring medical issues, medical history, and past withdrawal experiences. Patients who experience high anxiety related to the fear of withdrawal symptoms might be best served in the most reassuring safe treatment environments possible. The consensus panel (ASAM) suggests that for alcohol, sedative-hypnotic, benzodiazepine, and opioid withdrawal syndromes, hospitalization is often the preferred setting for detoxification, based on principles of safety and humanitarian concerns. Acute, potentially life-threatening conditions need to be addressed concurrently with the withdrawal process and acute hospital monitoring may be indicated. Global Medical Detox represents the highest level of detox care possible. Being the first General Acute Care unit authorized by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) to provide care for both primary medical conditions and primary chemical dependency diagnosis makes Global Medical Detox the best choice to treat all levels of detox care.
